Populate the Asset ID field of an asset record or find an asset in the ELIAS Inspections application using the QR/Barcode scanner.

Using the ELIAS QR/Barcode reader to update an asset record

Every “Asset ID” (barcode/QR code) field in the ELIAS Inspections application has the ability to read and populate the field using the ELIAS QR/Barcode scanner.

  • In the asset draw next to the Asset ID field click the “Scan” icon next to the data entry field.
  • The QR/Barcode scanner will open your devices camera in a small scanner window.
  • Point the camera at the target QR/Bar code in the center of the scanner window.
  • The tag will be identified and read automatically – you don’t need to do anything else.
  • The Asset ID field will by populated automatically.
  • The asset ID prefix will also be included if no prefix is defined or stripped from the ID if a predetermined asset prefix is configured for your survey.
  • Update the asset record by saving the new data.

Issues using the QR/Barcode scanner

  • Your device must have a camera to be able to scan and read a QR/Barcode.
  • The camera may not be able to read the QR/Barcode in poor light or if there are deep reflections or shadows on the target tag. This will depend on the capabilities of your devices camera
  • Reposition the camera or use an light/torch in poor conditions, try to avoid shadows and reflections

Searching for an asset using the QR/Barcode scanner

Search for an asset by QR/Barcode using the scanner
  • Open the search by clicking on the search (magnifying glass icon) in the screen header
  • In the search box click the “Scan” icon next search icon in the search data entry field.
  • The QR/Barcode scanner will open your devices camera in a small scanner window.
  • Point the camera at the target QR/Bar code in the center of the scanner window.
  • The tag will be identified and read automatically – you don’t need to do anything else.
  • The Asset ID field will be passed to the search automatically.
  • A matching asset will be displayed in the results.
  • If a match can not be found you will be informed.
